6th Class News

In February, the St. Michael’s basketball team reached the semi-finals of the Midlands League. After a highly competitive match, they were narrowly defeated by an excellent Killasonna team. Coaches Mr. Kenny and Mr. Delaney were delighted with the boys’ effort, teamwork, and performance throughout the competition.

Also in February, a team of four Sixth Class pupils represented St. Michael’s at the Credit Union Quiz held in the Mall. With a large number of schools taking part, the boys performed exceptionally well and represented the school with great pride.

On Saturday, 25th April, the Sixth Class pupils received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Paul in the Cathedral. It was a wonderful ceremony, and the boys looked fantastic as they celebrated this important milestone in their faith journey.

In April, the school soccer team, which included many Sixth Class pupils, travelled to the MLD Grounds in Navan to participate in a soccer competition. The boys performed admirably throughout the day, and their coach, Miss Mollaghan, was very pleased with their efforts and sportsmanship.

On 18th May, the St. Michael’s Gaelic football team, coached by Mr. Carberry, Mr. Delaney, and Mr. O’Brien, achieved a remarkable victory by defeating Drumlish National School in the Division 1B Final at Pearse Park. This was the first time in over 20 years that the school had won the Division 1B title, making it a truly outstanding achievement for both the players and their coaches.

For their Sixth Class school tour, the boys travelled to Emerald Park in County Meath. It was a fantastic day filled with fun, excitement, and memorable experiences, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.

Herb Pots

Mr. Delaney's class with help from Cristín grew their own herb pots this term.  Then they make pizzas using the herbs.

Visit to the Library

During the first term, the 6th class students were invited to the library to learn about sustainable businesses and initiatives currently active in the Midlands. The students really enjoyed the afternoon and gained a lot of knowledge about the importance of sustainability and protecting our local natural environment.
