3rd Class News
We had a very busy few months once we came back after Christmas in 3rd class. The boys came back ready for all the hard work and fun that we were going to have.
In January the boys really enjoyed learning all about Egypt, we studied how they lived and how they made the pyramids. We had a virtual tour of the ‘Pyramids of Giza’ and then did projects on what we had learned. We also continued with Irish Myths and also learned all about the Vikings. We had lots of fun doing different work on these topics including free writing and art. It is great to read and see the amazing imagination of these lads.
In Art we have concentrated on learning the skill of drawing. Some of the boys have really excelled in this and definitely have a future in the arts!!! Our walls and folders are full of all our great work throughout the year.
Of course Maths, English and Irish are important subjects in school. We all tried our best throughout the year and we know we must continue to always try our best.
The boys in 3rd class have begun to get involved in school life outside the classroom. Some of our boys are part of the green schools and amber flag committees. It’s great to see our boys getting involved in different parts of school life. The boys are also becoming more involved in football, and many of the boys in 3rd class have started playing with Longford Slashers GAA club. Keep it up boys!
We started swimming in January and are very lucky to get 6 weeks of this amazing skill. The three classes really enjoy sport and games and we took part in lots of Gaelic with David and Athletics with Enda throughout the year. Our school tour was to ‘Jump Zone’ in Carrick on Shannon and Lough Key Forest Park. The boys had the best day out. It was one of the best days of the year and the boys behaved superbly.
Throughout the year we learned so much in Geography and Science. We enjoyed learning lots of new skills and taking part in experiments. Our boys are very curious and interested in finding out about the world around them. There’s definitely a few future scientists in 3rd class this year!
We talked a lot about looking after ourselves and living happy and healthy lives. We had a fantastic Wellness week in school. We had so much fun and every day there was something exciting happening. We know how important this is as we get older and we look forward to learning more in 4th class.
We kept busy all year – right up to the holidays. One of our favourite days was when we took part in our annual sports day down in the Mall – It was great fun!
Thanks to Cristín, Cian, Michelle and Miss McGinnity for all their help with the boys in 3rd class this year.
We hope everyone has a great summer.
Fire Department Visit
The boys from the 3rd classes had very important visitors recently – the local fire department! The boys learned lots about how to stay safe in the event of a fire as well as tips on how to avoid fires. Very important knowledge to have! The boys asked some great questions and even got the chance to use the fire hose. It was a great experience and the boys really enjoyed it.
Football Fun Factory
The boys in Mr Carberry’s 3rd class are currently taking part in football training indoor in the mall every Friday. Our coach, Rob, is teaching us lots of new skills and we are improving every week. We love walking down to the mall on Friday evenings and having lots of fun. We might have the next Troy Parrott coming from St Michaels yet!
